LANGEBERG MALL TO CARLY PIATER’S AID

Carly Piater is an incredible 4 year old little girl.  She and her twin sister Rénel we born nine weeks premature and Carly developed Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) three months after her birth.

Carly’s father, Adolf Piater is currently putting his life at risk, on an “Impossible Journey” to raise awareness of the condition and to raise the funds required to pay for Carly’s surgery. Adolf and Joani are hoping to raise enough funds to not only pay for Carly’s surgery, but to assist other families with children suffering from ROP.  For this reason they have started the Carly Piater Trust for ROP.

On learning of Carly’s urgent need to have surgery before the end of the year, Langeberg Mall in MosselBay (where the Piater family lives) have agreed to pay the costs of Carly’s surgery.  Wendy Bezuidenhout, Centre Manager, for Langeberg Mall says that management felt that community spirit and support was very important.  Wendy delivered the exciting news to Adolf and Joani Piater on Monday when she was in Witsand to welcome Adolf and Ian to dry land after the third day of their journey.  The Piater team is still committed to their project and will be completing their “Impossible Journey” to raise additional funds for the trust so that families who cannot afford to pay for the surgery can change the lives of their children.

“Langeberg Mall opened in 2006 and over the last 2 years, the focus has been on becoming more involved in the community that supports Langeberg Mall.” Wendy said. Langeberg Mall has become involved in many different types of sporting activities in the community and the annual Miss Teen Langeberg Mall pageant succeeds in raising funds for local charities and organisations in the community.

Wendy says “Langeberg Mall in conjunction with the Southern Right Festival will be hosting a charity wine auction in the town hall on the 21st May 2010 and funds raised at this auction will be donated to NSRI, Round Table, the Carly Piater Trust for ROP and other needy organisations in the MosselBay community.

For more information on the journey, you can go to www.theimpossiblejourney.co.za and for information relating to the Charity Wine Auction you can contact Langeberg Mall on 044695-2880.
